Its hard to say who built the first surfboard in South Australia but since surfing took of in SA there has been surfboards built in SA. Its pretty clear though that JayBees and Don Burford were the first ones to manufacture surfboards professionally in the late fifties. From these pioneers an industry was spawned which saw the emergence of some great board builders that have plied there trade here nationally and internationally over the years. Ever since these guys started building boards surfers have been able to get a custom built board for the local conditions.  South Australia's waves are the most varied in Australia ranging from the slow rolling waves of the Middleton to Goolwa stretch to the sucky beach breaks of Waitpinga, Westcape etc to the hollow barrels of the west coast. The surfboard shapers of S.A. over the years have built the boards to handle these variety of conditions.
